New Gem Trek Travel Maps

by | Apr 2, 2024 | New Editions

After two years of research and production, we are proud to announce the release of three new Gem Trek Maps. Designed for visitors looking for map/guides that will lead them through the Canadian Rockies, these maps also describing wildlife, geology, and providing practical information like distance charts and insider tips for getting parking at local trailheads. The maps also have insets on the reverse side that give more detail for towns and popular hiking areas. Each map also has 10-12 major highlights and 10-12 of the best day hikes highlighted on the main map, then described in more detail on the reverse side. To keep prices reasonable ($9.95 each), they are printed on regular paper, not the waterproof paper of our hiking maps.

New Gem Trek Travel Map Covers

When designing the map covers, we looked for photos that matched each other in a low-light tone, to differentiate this series from our bright, full sunlight scenes on our waterproof hiking maps. As always, we sourced only from local photographers.

The cover of the Banff National Park Travel Map features Peyto Lake, along the Icefields Parkway. The photographer was Brayden James Hall, who has a huge Instagram following and posts videos of his adventures on Tik Tok: @braybraywoowoo

Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park is a major draw for visitors for the boat trip to Spirit Island and hiking trails that lace the surrounding hills. But on occasion, the highlight is main staging area for visitors at the lake’s north end, where Andrew Hempstead snapped this photo of a moose wading out into the water beside the boathouse.

Although it’s reached by a steep, unrelenting trail, Tent Ridge in Kananaskis Country has become a star of social media in recent years for its views across Spray Lakes and stunning morning and evening light. In our Kananaskis Country map cover photo, photographer Renee van Veldhuizen captures the very best of these elements as the sun sets over the ridge and lake.
