Gem Trek recently published the 1st edition Lake Louise & Moraine Lake Map, which covers two of the most iconic lakes in Banff National Park and combine to be one of the world’s most popular hiking destinations.
We worked closely with Parks Canada and local guides, as well as putting in plenty of fieldwork ourselves to ensure that the maps are as accurate and comprehensive as possible. As with all our maps, the fieldwork adds an element of precision and usefulness that can’t be found from any other source.
Like all our other hiking maps, the Lake Louise & Moraine Lake Map is printed here in Canada on waterproof, tear-resistant paper. The unfolded size is 18 x 24 inches, and the scale is 1:35,000, allowing great detail of every hiking trail. On the reverse side descriptions of the best short walks and day hikes, with highlights of each trail noted, as well as distance, elevation gain and directions to the trailhead. An Inset map increase coverage of the village of Lake Louise. We also include trip-planning information, including transportation and parking.
History of the Lake Louise & Moraine Lake Map
For the map geeks out there, here’s a short history of this map’s evolution. In 2025, we renamed our Best of Maps as Up-Close Maps. While we felt that “Best of” could apply to our Lake Louise map, the explosion of popularity of nearby Moraine Lake as a hiking destination warranted more detailed coverage of that lake included on our 1:50,000 Lake Louise & Yoho Map.
Once the decision was made to combine Lake Louise and Moraine Lake on one map, we began looking at ways to crop the map to include as much detail as possible, while keeping a 1:35,000 scale. The final layout includes every trail around the lakes, with a northern cut-off near the Lake Louise Ski Resort.
