Visiting Jasper National Park in 2025 will be different in previous years, but the town and park have rebounded since the July 24-25 2024 wildfire that swept through the Athabasca River Valley and partially destroyed the town. It’s no consolation for Jasper locals who lost everything, but by next summer I assume there will be a return to normalcy for the tourism industry, with campgrounds, attractions, and hiking trails open – making Jasper the perfect place to spend some time, while also supporting the town and its residents.
Parks Canada has done an admirable job of opening roads and most hiking trails affected by the fire. The road up to Maligne Lake opened in October (although Maligne Canyon is closed) and the road to Mount Edith Cavell is scheduled to open next spring. Hiking trails around the town affected by fire will all be open by spring 2025. We hiked through the fire-affected forests around fire-affected Lake Annette and looped up and over the top of Old Fort Point this past fall. At that time everything was blackened, but look for lots of forest floor greenery next summer.
For campers, Wabasso Campground is closed indefinitely (see this CTV news story for a fuller picture of Wabasso), and Wapiti will be open in a reduced capacity, but all other front country campgrounds will be fully open.

Gem Trek has been working closely with Parks Canada to ensure the new edition of our Jasper Up-Close Map is as up to date as possible. It will be available on our website and all Jasper retailers in spring 2025.

How Can I Donate for the Jasper Wildfire?
As of late 2024, even though its been many months since the last of the fires were extinguished, the town, its residents, and its businesses still need help. One of the best ways to help in by planning a visit in 2025. Or donate to these causes: Even before the fire has been extinguished, businesses in nearby towns and throughout the region have begun fundraising for the Jasper wildfire evacuees and local community organizations. In addition, here is an ongoing fundraiser we highly recommend, with 100% of donations going directly to the community:
