After many months of research, fact checking, and editing, it’s always a joy to visit with our printer and watch each new edition roll off the press. Our maps are printed here in Alberta by the Burke Group, who have been working with Gem Trek for decades. With over 50,000 maps to print, you’d think it would be a long process, but with over 6,000 sheets printed per hour it’s a two-day process. Even at that output, the run time is slowed as we print CMYK + a 5th colour (464C) to give contour lines more definition.
With today’s technology, colour-matching is a real art. But it also gives us the opportunity to match colours throughout the map set with more accuracy than was ever possible in the past.
Once off the press, maps are folded and boxed.
